Materuni Waterfalls and Coffee Plantation Day Trip is one of the most popular cultural and nature excursions in Northern Tanzania. Located on the slopes of Mount Kilimanjaro, approximately 15 km from Moshi town, Materuni Village offers visitors a unique opportunity to experience the culture of the Chagga people, explore lush coffee farms, and visit one of the most beautiful waterfalls in the region.
The village sits at an altitude of about 1,800 meters above sea level, providing spectacular views of Mount Kilimanjaro and the surrounding countryside. Visitors can enjoy a guided hike through coffee plantations, learn the traditional coffee-making process from bean to cup, and swim beneath the stunning Materuni Waterfall, which plunges approximately 80 meters into a natural pool.

ITINERARY

Materuni Waterfalls & Coffee Plantation Day Trip

Your adventure begins with a morning pick-up from your hotel in Moshi or Arusha. After a short briefing, you will drive to Materuni Village, located on the green foothills of Mount Kilimanjaro.
Upon arrival, you will meet a local guide who will lead you through the village and surrounding coffee plantations. During the walk, you will learn about the traditions and daily life of the Chagga people while enjoying beautiful views of the mountain and fertile landscapes.
The hike continues through lush vegetation and small streams to the magnificent Materuni Waterfall. The walk takes approximately 45–60 minutes and offers excellent opportunities for photography and birdwatching. At the waterfall, you can relax, take photos, or enjoy a refreshing swim in the cool mountain waters.
After visiting the waterfall, you will return to the village for a traditional Chagga lunch prepared with locally sourced ingredients.
In the afternoon, you will participate in an authentic coffee-making experience. Local farmers will demonstrate the entire coffee production process, from harvesting and roasting the beans to grinding and brewing fresh organic coffee. Visitors are encouraged to participate in the process while enjoying traditional Chagga songs and dances.
After enjoying a freshly brewed cup of Kilimanjaro coffee, you will begin your drive back to Moshi or Arusha, arriving in the late afternoon or early evening.
