WHY 8 DAYS LEMOSHO ROUTE
The 8-Day Lemosho Route offers excellent acclimatization, stunning scenery, a comfortable climbing pace, and a higher
chance of reaching Uhuru Peak successfully. The extra day allows your body more time to adjust to the altitude, making
your Kilimanjaro experience safer and more enjoyable.
Day 0: Arrival in Tanzania – Moshi
Upon arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO), you will be met by a representative from Peak Climber Safaris and transferred to your hotel in Moshi.
After check-in and some rest, your mountain guide will conduct a pre-climb briefing. The guide will review the trekking itinerary, equipment, mountain safety procedures and answer any questions you may have.

Day 1: Londorossi Gate – Mti Mkubwa Camp
Elevation: Approximately 2,100–2,360 m to 2,810 m
Distance: Approximately 6 km
Trekking Time: 3–4 hours
Habitat: Rainforest
After breakfast, you will drive from Moshi toward the western side of Mount Kilimanjaro and proceed to Londorossi Gate.
After completing the park registration and meeting the mountain crew, the trek begins through the lush Kilimanjaro rainforest.
The trail is surrounded by tall trees, vegetation and the sounds of the forest. Keep an eye out for birds and, occasionally, signs of wildlife.
You will continue to Mti Mkubwa Camp, where your mountain crew will have prepared your campsite.

Day 2: Mti Mkubwa Camp – Shira 1 Camp
Elevation: Approximately 2,810 m to 3,610 m

After breakfast, you leave the rainforest behind and begin climbing into the moorland zone.
The vegetation becomes shorter and the landscape opens up as you approach the Shira Plateau.
You will continue toward Shira 1 Camp, where you can enjoy spectacular views of the surrounding landscape and, weather permitting, views toward the summit of Kilimanjaro.

Day 3: Shira 1 Camp – Shira 2 Camp
Elevation: Approximately 3,610 m to 3,850 m
Distance: Approximately 10 km

Today is designed as a gradual acclimatization day.
You will trek across the beautiful Shira Plateau toward Shira 2 Camp. The landscape becomes increasingly dramatic, with volcanic formations and expansive views across the plateau.
After reaching camp, you will have time to relax, enjoy your surroundings and prepare for the higher elevations ahead.

Day 4: Shira 2 Camp – Lava Tower – Barranco Camp
Elevation: Approximately 3,850 m to 4,630 m, then down to 3,960 m
Distance: Approximately 10–12 km
Trekking Time: 7–9 hours
Habitat: Alpine Desert
Today is one of the most important acclimatization days on the mountain.
The trail heads east through the high alpine desert toward Lava Tower, reaching approximately 4,600 m.
You will spend time at a higher elevation before descending toward Barranco Camp. This follows the important acclimatization principle of “climb high, sleep low.”
The descent takes you through dramatic volcanic landscapes and toward the impressive Barranco Valley.
Barranco Camp is located beneath the famous Barranco Wall, providing an unforgettable mountain setting.

Day 5: Barranco Camp – Karanga Camp
Elevation: Approximately 3,960 m to 4,035 m
Distance: Approximately 5 km
Trekking Time: 4–5 hours

After breakfast, you begin one of the most exciting sections of the Lemosho Route: the ascent of the Barranco Wall.
The Barranco Wall does not require technical climbing equipment. Your guide will assist you through the steeper sections and help you choose the safest route.
After crossing the wall, you continue through a series of valleys and ridges toward Karanga Camp.
This shorter trekking day allows you to rest and conserve energy for the summit push.

Day 6: Karanga Camp – Barafu Camp
Elevation: Approximately 4,035 m to 4,640 m
Distance: Approximately 4 km
Trekking Time: 3–5 hours

Today you continue toward Barafu Camp, the final base camp before the summit.
The landscape becomes increasingly rocky and barren as you enter the high alpine and Arctic environment.
After arriving at Barafu Camp, your guide will give you a detailed briefing about summit night. You will prepare your equipment, organize your clothing and trekking poles, and get as much rest as possible.
An early dinner is normally served before you go to sleep.

Summit Day – Uhuru Peak
This is the most challenging and rewarding day of your Kilimanjaro adventure.
You will normally begin the summit attempt around midnight or in the early morning hours, depending on your guide's plan and mountain conditions.
The climb to Uhuru Peak is slow and steady. You will trek through the darkness toward Stella Point on the crater rim.
As the sun rises, you may witness an unforgettable African sunrise from high on Mount Kilimanjaro.
From Stella Point, you continue around the crater rim toward Uhuru Peak, the highest point in Africa at 5,895 meters.
After reaching the summit, you will have time for photographs and to celebrate your achievement, subject to weather, safety and your physical condition.
You then begin the long descent toward Barafu Camp before continuing to Mweka Camp.
Overnight: Mweka Camp

Day 8: Mweka Camp – Mweka Gate – Moshi
Elevation: Approximately 3,100 m to 1,640 m
Distance: Approximately 10 km
Trekking Time: 3–4 hours

After breakfast, you begin your final descent through the rainforest toward Mweka Gate.
At the gate, you will complete the park exit procedures and receive your official Kilimanjaro summit certificate if you successfully reached the required summit point.
You will then meet your transfer vehicle and return to your hotel in Moshi.
Enjoy a hot shower, relax and celebrate your Kilimanjaro achievement.
