LEMOSHO ROUTE OVERVIEW

The Lemosho Route is the most scenic trail on Kilimanjaro, offering panoramic vistas from multiple sides of the mountain. Due to the ideal balance of limited trekkers, beautiful scenery and a high summit success rate, this is our preferred route. You will begin with a drive from Moshi to the Londorossi Gate, which approaches the mountain from the west. The first two days of your trek you will cross the Shira Plateau from west to east, which is a relatively flat hike. As you approach Lava Tower, this route joins the Machame route. You will traverse underneath Kilimanjaro’s Southern Ice Field on a path known as the Southern Circuit and will begin your summit climb from the Barafu Camp. The descent will be via the Mweka Route.

WHY 7 DAYS LEMOSHO ROUTE

The Lemosho Route is widely appreciated for its spectacular scenery and gradual approach to Mount Kilimanjaro. The route begins on the western side of the mountain before joining the southern circuit.
Beautiful and Diverse Scenery
During the trek, you experience several ecological zones of Kilimanjaro, including:
- Cultivated and forest zones
- Montane rainforest
- Moorland
- Shira Plateau
- Alpine desert
- Arctic summit zone
- The changing landscape makes every day of the trek different.
- Excellent Acclimatization
The route allows your body more time to adjust to increasing altitude. The itinerary also follows the important Kilimanjaro principle of “climb high, sleep low” on selected days.
- Shira Plateau
One of the highlights of the Lemosho Route is crossing the spectacular Shira Plateau, where you can enjoy wide views of the mountain and surrounding landscapes.
- Barranco Wall
The trek includes the famous Barranco Wall. Although it looks intimidating from below, it is primarily a scrambling section rather than technical rock climbing. Our guides assist you safely through the more challenging sections.
- Uhuru Peak
The ultimate goal is Uhuru Peak, the highest point on Mount Kilimanjaro and the highest free-standing mountain summit in the world.
Standing at 5,895 meters above sea level, reaching Uhuru Peak is an unforgettable achievement.

Today is one of the most important acclimatization days of the trek.
You leave Shira Plateau and gradually ascend toward Lava Tower, reaching approximately 4,630 meters.
After spending time at this higher elevation, you descend toward Barranco Camp.

Our experienced guides will assist you as you carefully make your way up the wall. No technical climbing equipment is normally required, but you should be prepared for some hands-on scrambling.
